The Story behind DCMS.

We can make this easier for everyone.

In 2018, over a cup of coffee, a group of us were talking about how difficult it is for people navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme – especially with their first plans. We asked ourselves “Why can’t we make this easier for everyone?”

Throughout our lives and careers, we have supported many people to connect and liaise with service providers. Not only have we assisted people to navigate through services, we have helped them to be heard. With combined personal and professional experiences, spanning over 30 years within disability, mental health, aged care, Allied Health, and management, we understand all sides. We know how hard it is to open up to strangers and to build trust. We just get it!

Fast forward to now, we have a dedicated team of highly experienced professional, caring and empathetic people who want to make the “complex” simple.

As most of Janet’s work history has been in the disability industry, she has an extensive knowledge base around the varying needs of people with a disability, customer service, management of staff and navigating the NDIS.  At 19 years of age, she began her career in the Disability Sector in NSW and has worked in a variety of roles from a disability support worker through to senior management. These roles have seen Janet support people from all walks of life from paediatrics through to our valued aged. Janet’s role as a Local Area Coordinator has provided her with a strong understanding of supporting people to access and utilise NDIS funding to live their best life.

Ben Quinn
Services Manager

Ben has studied business administration and accounting but he fell in love with the disability sector and went on to gain his Diploma in Disability. Ben has worked in both New South Wales and Queensland and now has more than 20 years in the industry. He has worked in a variety of roles from support work through to management positions. Ben has enjoyed seeing the difference NDIS has made to people with disabilities and has supported families to transition to the Scheme. Throughout his career Ben has supported many people with disabilities in day services, community settings and in their homes. Ben has a special interest in Supported Independent Living and really enjoys seeing people become more independent and create the lives they choose.  He has said It’s the little things that count, people decorating their bedroom exactly the way they want – some will have nothing on their walls, others will have a wild array of their favourite things.

“I thoroughly enjoy working for DCMS. The hands-on Management approach means they can be much more responsive with change and can tailor the services to meet the client’s need.”
